With the Future Networks Forum, we've commissioned a report that explores potential Distribution System Operation (DSO) models for Aotearoa. It sets out possible paths for how DSO could evolve here and raises the key questions we’ll all need to grapple with as DER (like EV chargers, batteries and solar) continue to take off. The report is intended to be a discussion starter. We’re not claiming to have the answers — but we think these options are a good place to start the kōrero.

Using Climate Change Commission forecasts and data from the Electricity Authority and lines companies, the research from Sapere maps out three scenarios: naïve; energy-optimised; and network-optimised.
